3 Days Shanxi Itineraries to Datong Taiyuan Wutai Mt. Qikou and Pingyao

3-Day Datong and Wutai Mountain Itinerary

Day 1: Datong, Visit the Yungang Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with thousands of Buddhist sculptures. Explore the Hanging Temple, a unique temple built on a cliff. Visit the Datong Museum, to learn more about the history and culture of Datong. Stay overnight in Datong.

Day 2: Wutai Mountain, Datong to Wutai Mountain. Take a cable car ride to the top of Wutai Mountain. Visit the many temples and monasteries located on the mountain, including the Pusading Temple, the Manjusri Temple, and the Potala Palace Temple. Try local cuisine and enjoy the local culture with a food and culture tour. Stay overnight in Wutai Mountain.

Day 3: Wutai Mountain, Spend the day exploring more of the temples and monasteries on the mountain. Enjoy a scenic hike through the beautiful surroundings. Take a bus from Wutai Mountain back to Datong or to your next destination. 

3-Day Taiyuan and Datong Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Taiyuan and check in to your hotel, Visit the Jinci Temple, a historic temple with a rich history and beautiful architecture, Explore the Twin Pagodas, a pair of ancient pagodas known for their unique design, Visit the Shanxi Museum, which showcases the rich cultural and historical heritage of the Shanxi province.

Day 2: Take a morning train to Datong, Visit the Yungang Grottoes, a series of ancient Buddhist cave temples, Check out the Hanging Monastery, a unique temple built into a cliff face, Visit the Nine Dragon Screen, a famous ancient wall fresco, Take a train back to Taiyuan for overnight stay

Day 3: Visit the Yang Family Grand Courtyard, a historic courtyard complex with well-preserved architecture, Explore the Wutaishan Scenic Area, a famous Buddhist pilgrimage site, End the day by taking a flight or train back home.

3-Day Taiyuan and Pingyao Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Taiyuan and check into your hotel. Visit the Jinci Temple, a famous temple with a long history and beautiful architecture. Stop by the Taiyuan Museum to learn about the city's history and culture. Enjoy some local cuisine for dinner.

Day 2: Take a train or bus to Pingyao. Check into your hotel in Pingyao. Spend the day exploring the ancient city's well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty architecture, including the Pingyao City Wall, Rishengchang Exchange Shop, and Shuanglin Temple. Have dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 3: Visit the Qiao Family Courtyard, a large traditional Chinese courtyard house with intricate carvings and beautiful gardens. Walk along the narrow, winding streets of the old town to take in the local sights and atmosphere. Have a farewell lunch in Pingyao before departing for your next destination.

Day 2: Take a bus or train to Wutai Mountain, Visit the Bodhisattva Mountains, Explore the Xinxing Temple, Check into a local hotel on the mountain

Day 3: Visit the Pusading Temple, Explore the Manjusri Temple, Return to Taiyuan or continue traveling.

3-Day Datong and Pingyao Itinerary
