Most of the best places in Hualien County are concentrated around the Taroko Gorge and the East Rift Valley areas. Taroko Gorge is renowned for its cliffs, peculiar rocks, and stunning gorges.
When visiting Hualien, you can't miss the chance to go out to sea with a fishing boat, sail on the Pacific Ocean, and ride the waves. One of the best and most interesting activities at Kaohsiung Harbor is touring Cijin Peninsula. From the ferry terminal on the southern end of Bin Hai Road, you can take a boat across the first port to Cijin Station, where you can visit Tianhou Temple, the lighthouse, and the beach. Ride the old tricycles, Cijin Peninsula is full of rustic charm. These tricycles, long phased out in Kaohsiung City, but still the main mode of transportation on the peninsula. Visitors enjoy the leisurely ride on these tricycles for a relaxed experience.
The island is so small that you can easily by scooter or cycle around it, yet there are many little secret beaches and coves to explore. The Love River and Lotus Pond cycling path: from True Love Pier to Lotus Pond, you can enjoy the scenery around Lotus Pond. There is also Fo Guang Shan, Taiwan's largest Buddhist monastery, the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas, and the Former British Consulate at Takao, all of which are historical sites well worth a visit.
