Tiananmen SquareIf you only have one day for a brief visit to Beijing, planning your itinerary is crucial so that you can explore the city efficiently within a limited time.
Beijing has many attractions that are quite spread out, which can roughly be divided into seven areas: the Tiananmen area centered on Tiananmen Square and the Central Axis; the Shichahai area centered on Shichahai and South Luogu Lane; the Three Hills and Five Gardens area centered on the Summer Palace and Peking University; the Xidan area centered on Sanlitun and Wangfujing; the Olympic Park area centered on the National Stadium and the Forest Park; the 798 area centered on the 798 Art Zone; and the Great Wall area located in the outskirts of Beijing.
Generally speaking, within one day in the city center you can visit two or three of these areas, but if you plan to visit the Great Wall, it is usually difficult to include many other attractions in the same day.
